The Herdsman

WAG 1561

Information

Palmer's art development was largely the result of association with artists John Linnell, John Varley, William Blake, William Mulready and George Richmond. The influence of his style of Blake and Varley is particulary strong. He began to etch quite late in his career, these 13 prints were produced after 1850. There is no real plate mark to speak of. This plate has penciled at the bottom by S Palmer that it is a second state after the alteration of the sky. J.S. 25/5/56 (on mount, in pencil) (presumable James Smith)
