Hieratic Ostracon

1973.2.516
Limestone ostracon with columns of cursive hieroglyphic text in red ink on both sides. Dr Roland Enmarch (University of Liverpool) examined the ostracon in March 2018 and suggests it to be a preparatory study for an artist tasked with applying religious texts to the walls of a tomb (probably in Thebes). See attached report by Dr Enmarch (PDF document). Remains of a circular white sticker left on the recto. This would have been an auction sticker with the lot number. Unfortunately there is no record of where Sir Henry Wellcome acquired the item.
