This watercolour painting depicts the designs for four figures from the play 'Queen Victoria'. An inscription on the lower left reads 'highland crowd'. The two figures on the left side are male. Both are wearing blue berets. The figure on the far left is wearing a blue and green tartan kilt with a brown sporran and blue and green tartan socks. They have a white shirt, grey waistcoat, blue necktie and a short brown unbuttoned jacket. The figure on the centre left is wearing a short brown jacket over what appears to be a white shirt and blue necktie. They have brown trousers to the knee, grey socks to the knee and grey/black shoes. A grey and black checked scarf is cross across their torso. The two figures on the right side are female. The figure on the centre right has brown hair, possibly put up. They are wearing a brown skirt and what appears to be a white top below a large green and brown tartan shawl. The figure on the far right is wearing a white shirt, brown skirt and has a black and grey tartan shawl or scarf draped over their head. Both female figures are bare footed.
