This painting does not seem to have ever appeared at any public exhibition, therefore may have been painted as an advertisement. This theory is supported by the inscription on the soap reading 'PEARS', and the painting's low quality compared to Morgan's artworks for exhibitions. A 1915 Pears advertisement reproducing the work has been traced, but the painting was probably used for this purpose before that date.
