Wooden hoe blade with two holes and a notch for inserting into a wooden handle-shaft which would have been tied with rope to bridge the two pieces. Marked in pencil 1616. Recorded as being "found at Sedment el Gebel" in the MacGregor collection sale catalogue.
CONDITION NOTE (1998): Dry, splitting, surface dirt.

Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 26 June - 3 July 1922 (MacGregor collection) Lot 612/3 " A wooden Hoe, with leaf-shaped blade attached to a curved handle, the blade 11 1/2 in. long by 5 in. wide, the handle 19 in. long; also the leaf-blade of a second Hoe; and a Shovel used for winnowing grain, the wide blade continuing straight along the handle on one side, rare, 14 3/4 in. long by 4 7/8 in. wide; the hoes found at Sedment el Gebel".
