Information
William Lewis Kerry was a Southport-based artist who was a member of the Liverpool Sketch Club in the 19th century, favouring picturesque, local landscapes in watercolour.
In this watercolour however Kerry has depicted a scene from 'Hudibras', a mock epic poem by the 17th century writer Samuel Butler. It is a satire on the English Civil War, hence the outfits of the two men on horseback, which are Puritan in style.
