Information

This is part of a group of drawings by British artist and book illustrator Edward Francis Burney, depicting scenes from Greek and Roman history and mythology. Hypermnestra was the daughter of Danaus and the only one of his fifty daughters, known as the Danaids, who refused to kill her husband on her father's orders. Angered, Danaus imprisoned Hypermnestra.
