Ideas for Painting (Studies for Caradoc)

WAG 6609

Information

These are studies for Rae's painting 'Caradoc', also in the Walker Art Gallery's collection (WAG 6574). Rae studied at Ealing School of Art between 1945 and 1949 and the Royal College of Art. He was head of the etching department at Edinburgh School of Art from 1959 and in 1964 went on to teach at Liverpool College of Art, where he met Roger McGough and Adrian Henri. Influenced by the American expressionists, he also worked with three dimensional constructions and set up a silk screen printing business.
