Inscribed Figure of Ankenmer

Statuette of a striding man, in basalt. Incised with two lines of a vertical inscription down the back pillar. The inscription names the prince, mayor, royal acquaintance and herald of the king, Ankhenmer, and the appeal to the living names the god Wepwawet of Asyut, as follows: 'every priest and every wab priest who enters the temple of Wepwawet Lord of Asyut and sees this statue...'. Ankhenmer wears a wide shoulder length wig or headcloth, which falls straight on to his shoulders. His rounded brows are modelled in relief, defining with cheek-bone and nose a deeply excavated eye-socket. Broken off at the ankles.
