1973.4.257

Information

One part of a bivalve shell inscribed with the name Senwosret within a cartouche, a prenomen used by three 12th Dynasty pharaohs. It seems likely that the inscription was made in modern times. Sold as lot 441 "Six mother-o'-pearl Shells, two with the name of Amenhotep III" in the 1906 sale catalogue of the Robert de Rustafjaell collection, sold at Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge auction house (1906, p. 28 lot 441).
