Homotopia, the annual queer arts festival based in Liverpool launched its 2007 celebrations with a party at the Hope Street Hotel, 29 October. Held 1-19 November, this was the fourth Homotopia, its theme was, All Things Bright and Beautiful.
As in 2006 there was a programme of over 70 events, including the Liverpool debut of National Theatre Scotland’s performance of Venus as a Boy which ran at the Unity Theatre 15-17 November. The artist Paul Harfleet also launched his Pansy Project, planting 2000 pansies in St. John’s Gardens in memory of victims of hate crime.
During the festival, Homotopia launched Homotopia TV, Liverpool’s first queer arts station which was supported by the Arts Council. It is still running and is committed to programming pieces dedicated to queer art and culture.
