J. Bramley-Moore .M.P.( Mayor of Liverpool 1848 )

WAG 1038

Information

The figure is J. Bramley-Moore [1800-1888], Chairman of the Liverpool Dock Committee at the time of the opening of the Liverpool Sailors' Home in 1846. He was elected the Lord Mayor of Liverpool in 1848. The Frederick Tatham attribution is based on an article in the Liverpool Albion, 13th September 1847, that mentions a print of a portrait of Mr J. Bramley-Moore by Frederick Tatham. WAG 1038 is very similar in style and size, although full face rather than three-quarter profile, to the lithographic portrait. WAG 1038 was a companion piece to WAG 1037. [See docket file for the article and the portrait print]
