Ceramic jar with funnel neck. Surface now very rough and fragile. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Surface loss, friable, flaking, surface cracked, rim chipped, surface dirt. Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession no. 13513: "Red pottery vase of early date. Rough surface. 11 1/4" high 5" diameter". Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 26 June - 6 July 1922 (MacGregor Collection) Lot 1714/10: "Five Vases, with ovoid bodies, in red and pale terra-cotta, all between 10in and 11in high, from Professor Garstang's excavations at Esna; and five others, of very early probably from Esna, Zawaideh or Abydos" (1922, p. 222).
