Pottery jar. Marked in ink "BUHEN TOWN 1963-64 No 30". From Buhen, the former ancient Egyptian fortress outpost in Lower Nubia (Sudan) that in 1964 was entirely submerged beneath the reservoir waters behind the Aswan High Dam. CONDITION NOTE (1998): Chipped rim and surface, running crack from rim, black mottled appearance, white residue, surface dirt.
