Jar

Coarse red pottery jar with globular body, narrow neck and flaring mouth. Some streaks of red paint. Small neat excavation mark in black "605", quite unlike John Garstang's distinctive thick nibbed black ink on pottery from Beni Hasan. Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 26 June - 6 July 1922 (MacGregor Collection) Lot 1699/24: "Twenty-four miscellaneous vases, in glazed and unglazed pottery; from Esna, Abydos and other sites" (1922, p. 221).
