Cylindrical jar with flaring rim and base. Perfumed ointments and unguents were stored in jars like this. Compare with Ali el-Khouli, ‘Egyptian Stone Vessels, Predynastic Period to Dynasty III: Typology and Analysis’ (Mainz, 1978) no. 854. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Chipped, pitted, surface dirt, worn. Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession number 19590: 'One Empire vase, roughly drilled, in arragonite, form Abydos. 5" high 3½" diameter'. Purchased at Stevens', London, 25 November 1919.
