Cylindrical jar with flaring rim and base. Perfumed ointments and unguents were stored in jars like this. Compare with Ali el-Khouli, ‘Egyptian Stone Vessels, Predynastic Period to Dynasty III: Typology and Analysis’ (Mainz, 1978) nos. 465-466. Marked twice in pencil 194/19. Label on the base with red border marked '...-61'. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Incomplete, large area of loss, surface dirt, scratched, worn, discoloured. Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 19-21 December 1906 (Robert de Rustafjaell collection) Lot 194/19 "A silimar lot [alabaster vessels]".
