Cylindrical jar with a flaring rim. Jars shaped like this were used to store perfumed ointments and unguents. Marked in ink 6473. Compare shape with W. M. F. Petrie, Stone and Metal Vases (London, 1937) no. 83. Base has a sticker labelled "Meux 4" (i.e., Lady Valerie Meux Collection) and trace of a pencilled number, perhaps 181. Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession no. 51976/6473: VASE. Alabaster, tall wide lip chipped. 4 3/4" x 2 1/2" diameter. From H.M.M. Dec. 1926 CONDITION NOTE (1998): Part of rim missing, chipped, scratched, surface dirt.
