Jar

Bottle shaped 'black-topped' pottery jar with flat base and short fat neck. Black patch on one side. Same shape as pots 94a on plate XXI of 'Naqada and Ballas'. Attributed to Naqada by Dr Dorothy Downes (16.3.1965), grave 1636?. Last two digits of a 3 or 4 digit number on the base are clear '36'. Compare with a similarly marked bottle in the Oriental Institute Museum (Chicago, USA), E1826. CONDITION NOTE (1998): Chipped, pitted, surface loss, discolouration, surface dirt.
