John Bright

LL 319

Information

John Bright was a Liberal politician in the early 19th century. He campaigned for social and political reform and was well known as a great orator. Lever was also a Liberal and admired Bright’s work. This bust of John Bright was made by an unknown British sculptor in the late 19th century. Lever also owned sculptures of his other great political hero, William Ewart Gladstone. Lever intended to display the John Bright bust with one of Gladstone, and in 1923 had a matching marble pedestal made for the Bright bust.
