This is a portrait of the welsh sculptor John Gibson (1790 – 1866). Hargreaves copied it from an original portrait made by Welsh artist  Penry Williams (1802 – 1885) made in 1839. It was exhibited at the Historical Exhibition of Liverpool Art, Walker Art Gallery (23 May - 04 July 1908, No. 483).
