Small, squat pitcher of sheet-bronze. The surface of the jug preserves evidence of the woven cloth in which it was wrapped or against which it rested. The textile, with an open weave, preserves impressions of woven cloth in rust on the neck and body of the vessel.

The pitcher is an example of the type known as a "plumpe Kanne", the baggy forerunner of the classical Etruscan "Schnabelkanne" beaked pitcher, very characteristic of Etruscan tomb groups and exports from the region of Vulci. As Turfa notes, an intensive Etruscan occupation of the Bay of Naples is in fact attested for the Archaic period, in finds made beneath the levels of the homes destroyed in AD79, so it is possible that this vase was found in Herculaneum.
