This watercolour shows the ivy-covered exterior of the Keep, Beeston Castle. Shown from the grassy bank below it, the arched gateway to the left of the Keep can also be seen. On the right, a girl is seated in the shade wearing a white pinafore. Beeston Castle is in Cheshire, situated on top of a rocky crag. Alfred Bennett Bamford was a prolific artist, archaeologist and collector. He trained at Heatherley's and Camden School of Art, London before exhibiting widely, including at the Royal Academy, London and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
