The Kentuckians, about 1968 This photo of local country music band, The Kentuckians, was taken at the NALGO Club (National Association of Local Government Officers) in either Dovecot or Walton. Kev Fleming, son of band member Gordon reveals how important a strong identity was to the group, including their hairstyles. “My dad ordered the snazzy outfits for the group. They had just won an award on Granada TV, and he got them tailored to look professional. They were booked to be the house band on the QEII. They got their hair cut at a shop on Holt Road. The barber advised them to keep hair long as this was all the rage at the time. They also said to wash it twice a week maximum to keep the hair’s natural oils in, and most importantly - brush with a metal comb to prevent baldness. It must have worked as he still has a full head of hair at 92!” Image caption: Left to right - Frank Peters / Dave Stevens / Gordon Fleming / Martin Quilty / Bob Arnold. Courtesy of Gordon Fleming
