Komo Society Mask

This mask is probably of a type used by a Bamana power association called Komo, whose secrets were only made known to initiates. Such associations made use of powerful artworks and ‘medicines’ in order to combat malevolent forces, such as witchcraft, to ensure the well-being of their members and the wider community.
