'Kop'

Information

The Kop, a riot of colour and noise, filled with thousands of Liverpool fans is captured in this painting by life-long Liverpool Football Club fan, Adrian Henri. Henri, a well-known Merseyside writer, artist and performer is perhaps best known as one of the poets in the best-selling anthology, The Mersey Sound, along with Roger McGough and Brian Patten. He happily combined writing and painting throughout his life; painting influencing his writing and running alongside it. He created this painting of the Kop, one of the largest single-tier stands in the world two years before Anfield became an all-seater stadium in 1994. Henri’s Kop paintings are amongst his most popular series. He sadly died in 2000 here in Liverpool.
