The three works by Cecil Jay are mounted as a triptych in one frame. Cecil Jay studied at Pelham Studios, London, the Royal College of Art and with Sir Herbert von Herkomer in Bushey, Hertfordshire. She then studied in the Netherlands with the American artist Geroge Hitchcock; they married in 1905. She became an American citizen after his death in 1913. Jay exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Miniature Society (of which she was briefly a member), the Paris Salon and the Liverpool Autumn Exhibition. She also exhibited in the USA, at the Chicago Art Institute, the National Academy of Design in New York City, the Corcoran Art Gallery in Washington DC and the Indianapolis Art Museums. She was a member of the New York Watercolour Club.
