Information

A label on the reverse of the frame in which this watercolour was originally housed records the following: 'W. H. Bartlett The Original Drawings for the illustrations to "The Nile Boat."' 'The Nile Boat' was a travel book combining a written account of William Henry Bartlett's journey along the Nile and printed reproductions of the drawings he made along the route. This drawing does not obviously correlate to any of the published images in the volume but may still have been made on his travels in Egypt in 1845. The mountainous landscape suggests the location is in the Eastern Desert.
