Landscape with figures beside a River

Throughout his career, Grimaldi was known for creating compositions which often included landscapes. His sketches are enhanced through his use of lines to build volume and the use of wash for shadow. Through this, he creates spacious and tranquil scenes, primarily of the Italian countryside. In this work, the addition of the figures to the scene, emphasises the scale of the landscape around them.
