Laocoön

A large group of figures battling a serpent. The contorted bodies of several figures are writhing on the ground wrapped around by the serpent. Soldiers flee with their arms held uploft and a look of horror on their faces, on the left half of the canvas. In the centre of the canvas stands a round stone brazier that has carvings of a female face on its side. The back of one of the fleeing soldiers is heightened with white lead, as are the heads of the some of the other figures, and the plume of smoke rising from the brazier.
