Information

This is a white-ground lekythos in the style of the Sabouroff Painter. The outline decoration is in black-brown slip. There are traces of palmette pattern on the shoulder, and a maeander border below the shoulder, framing the main scene. The main frieze shows on the left, a youth wearing a chlamys, a petasos (hat) hanging behind his head. He holds two spears in his left hand. In the centre, there is a grave marker with two wreaths at foot. To the right, a woman wearing a long chiton stands in a frontal body position but has her head turned towards the tomb. There are traces of red colour in her chiton. The gesture of her right hand suggests she has just placed a wreath. The left hand has completely faded.
