Information

Huggins' best and most characteristic work was of animals. His paintings are known for their good drawing and remarkable brilliance of colour, which he achieved by using transparent glaze over a white background. he is said occasionally to have collaborated with other artists, including Robert Beattie (1810-1874), who provided backgrounds for some of his animal subjects. Huggins' animal works are often compared to those by Stubbs, whose influence he acknowledged.
