Information

Lita Roza, from Liverpool, was the first British woman to have a UK number one hit record with '(How Much Is) that Doggie in the Window? in 1953. She disliked the song so much that she never sang it again after making her recording. Regularly topping the 'best singer' polls throughout the 1950s, Lita's true love was performing on stage. Independent from the start, she managed her own career. She brought the curtain down on her glittering career with a final performance in Liverpool in 2001, for BBC Radio Merseyside's 30th anniversary. This dress, which was one of her favourites, typified her glamorous style. Lita very kindly donated it in 2007. She sadly passed away the following year.
