'Liverpool Counterpoint 11'

LIV.2015.51.11

Information

Atta Kwami's prints, like his paintings, are poetic and schematic evocations of memory, place and experience. Part of the inspiration for Liverpool Counterpoint 11 was drawn from his experience of walking around Liverpool during his visit in the summer of 2014 and his memory of the docks, high-rise buildings, and Liverpool Biennial’s Dazzle Ship by Carlos Cruz-Diez. Another inspiration was the colourful lozenge design on a Fulani beaded apron (1982.613.145) that Atta Kwami sketched in the World Museum stores during the same Liverpool visit.
