'Liverpool Counterpoint 6'

LIV.2015.51.6

Information

Kwami’s varied visual memories from the trip he made to Liverpool in the summer of 2014 were brought together in the making of this print. The backdrop of multi-coloured bands in the upper part of the print was inspired by his memory of a display of Ghanaian cloths in the World Cultures Gallery at World Museum. The powerful red triangular form that dominates the lower half of the print is based on a Kabyle silver brooch (M4418) from North Africa that Kwami sketched in the museum store. The black disk with concentric decorative bands is based on something Kwami spotted while strolling the streets of Liverpool.
