A copy of the Liverpool Daily Newspaper Tuesday December 9, 1856, from the day the time capsule was buried. The front page of the newspaper gives a snapshot of daily life in Liverpool in the winter of 1856. With the approach of Christmas there are seasonal adverts for toys, clothes and Christmas ale. Many of the general adverts are for retailers stocking the latest fashions for men and women. Alongside these is an advertisement for superior hair cutting which boasts of 6 hair-cutting rooms and an immense stock of false hair. These sit alongside adverts for more everyday necessities such as fuel and carriage repairs. Goods are not the only thing being advertised. A variety of local activities are listed including dances, evening language classes, riding, Christmas festivities, dining, musical concerts and an upcoming poultry show.
