Information

The SS Fürth was captured by the Royal Navy and subsequently manned by Harrison Line's officers and crew from the Diplomat. The Diplomat was captured on 13 September 1914 by the German commerce raider, Emden in the Bay of Bengal, and after the crew were transferred to the prison ship Kabinga, the Diplomat was sunk. Upon release in Calcutta, Captain Thomson and most of the crew went to Colombo (16 September 1914) and took over the captured SS Fürth and sailed to London.
