Reed from a modern loom (c. 1900), made from flattened strips of steel wire (now rusted) between two half round ribs of wood, and binding the whole together with tarred fabric. This was taken from a loom in Wigan, Lancashire. Was displayed in the Ancient Egypt gallery between 1912 and 1941 to provide a modern comparison beside ancient examples of weaving technology and woven cloth.
CONDITION NOTE (1998): Brittle, residue stuck between combs, surface dirt, surface loss
