Information
Ivory mace handle fragment with incised cross-hatching decoration featuring the design of a reed shrine. Marked by the archaeologist 520, a continuation of James Quibell's original sequence of numbers for objects found within the temple building itself. Found near the ‘Main Deposit’ in the temple at Nekhen. It bears the site number (520) after that of the lapis lazuli head (519) which was found by Harold Jones when he trenched in that part of the temple in December 1905.
Compare with ivory cylinders from the main deposit in J. E. Quibell, 'Hierakonpolis I' (London, 1900), pl. XV.
