The Madonna and Child (Album I)

This drawing was probably made by an artist who was either associated with or assisted in the studio and academy run by various members of the Carracci family, especially Annibale, Agostino and Ludovico. Alternatively it may be a copy of a drawing by Ludovico Carracci. It was previously owned by the artist Peter Lely (1618 - 1680). The billowing drapery of the Virgin may have attracted his attention as useful as a drapery study for his many portraits.
