Medcalf collection: Ocean Steamship Company (Blue Funnel Line), fleet history and photographs.

This collection comprises the research undertaken by Mr Medcalf into the fleet of vessels owned by the Ocean Steam Ship Company Limited (Alfred Holt and Co Ltd / Blue Funnel Line) and the various shipping lines that made up the company. It is a particularly detailed ‘fleet list’ type collection as Medcalf used a number of primary sources, not least the company fleet journals held by the Maritime Archives and Library at reference OS/621. The accompanying photograph and postcard collection includes images of some vessels unavailable elsewhere within the holdings of the Maritime Archives and Library. The collection covers all the many companies that made up the Ocean Steam Ship Company Limited (Alfred Holt and Co Ltd / Blue Funnel Line) for example Blue Funnel, Glen Line, Wm Cory & Sons, O.I.L. Limited, Cory Towage, China Mutual, O.S.S. Co, and Alfred Holt. It covers all the vessels owned by the company from 1866 to 1968.
