Menat Fragment

A disc from a necklace menat. Relief decoration on one side shows Khnum seated, and the other shows a man & calf. Possibly compare with a menat base, c.f., Berlin 21838 (Pharaohs of the Sun, Boston 1999, p. 234 [no. 99]. See Transactions of the Historic Society of Lancashire & Cheshire vol. 32 (1879-1880), 'Notes including description of an ancient Egyptian object and of a Book of Hours, the latter in the Mayer Museum in Liverpool and once belonging to the Ewer family of Middlesex'. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Corroded, worn, surface dirt.
