Merit

The figure was identified through a drawing inscribed Merit, by Guardi’s brother-in-law, Giambattista Tiepolo. The overall conception, with its free, flowing brushwork and light, and subtle tonality, has a good deal in common with Tiepolo’s grand allegorical figures.
