Mersey Docks certificate granted to Makhan Singh

This certificate was issued by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board to Makhan Singh in the 1950s, granting him permission to sell clothes to seamen on the docks and on vessels. Makhan Singh arrived in the UK from India in 1948, aged 18. He married, moved to Liverpool and found work with his father selling clothes to seamen at the port. (South Asian Heritage Month)
