Information
Floris was a leading figure in Antwerp during the Renaissance. In this work, he focuses on the figure of Cyane, a nymph who dissolved into water after she failed to stop the rape of Prosperina. Her trailing hair melts into the stream, while her hands are clasped together in prayer. A mood of grief is enhanced by Floris’s use of blue wash.
