Miss Tysson

LL 3696

Information

Lever purchased this work as a piece by Lawrence but it cannot be convincingly ascribed to him. The head is of much higher quality than the rest of the painting, which is quite crude, possibly even by a later hand. There is no biographical information for the lady in the picture, but the use of a double 's' in her name suggests it may be an invention of the collector, James Orrock, from whom Lever bought the painting. Orrock did similar with another painting of a lady in his collection, 'Miss Fergusson' (LL 3667).
