Pair of embroidered moccasins with tongues. Black skin embroidered with dyed moose hair in red, green, blue, white, pink and yellow. Trimmed with red ribbon. Catholic Nuns first taught Native American women how to embroider European floral designs at mission schools. The Huron, who excelled at this work, sold or traded moccasins to both Native Americans and European travellers.
