Mast from the model of a sailing boat (accession no. 55.82.6). The model was reconstructed from broken parts in about 1960 replacing missing parts with modern substitutes: the posts that support the canopy of the cabin, the mast, rigging and sail. This is an original part of the boat that was not known of at the time.

There seem to be no archive images of the original appearance of the boat within John Garstang’s photographic archive. It had previously been thought this boat matched with one from tomb 585 illustrated in Garstang (1907) fig. 80. However, this is most probably the sailing boat illustrated in fig. 88.
