Model of a Column

Limestone model of an unfinished papyrus column and plain shaft with a band indicated. The purpose of these model columns is still uncertain with suggestions being they served as architectural models or as votive offerings. Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession no. 164029. Purchased at Stevens, London, 29 July 1930 Lot 9 (same source as another example no. 1973.4.109). Compare with finished example in the Petrie Museum UC28720.
