Mortar carved from black basalt. Shallow with four protruding trapezoidal lug handles (one missing). The inner surface is worn, indicating its use as mortar. Given to the East Anglia Egyptian Society in November 1925 by the Egypt Exploration Society from 'old stock' in return for their subscription. Previously assumed to be from Tell el Amarna but it is probably from Naukratis (c.f., 56.21.684). CONDITION NOTE 1998: Surface chipped, corner missing, chipped, label adhered to base.
